Paris Paralympics 2024, India’s Medal Tally Rises To 27
Two Indian Athletes Dominate In The Men’s High Jump T63 Event:
Sharad Kumar and Mariyappan Thangavelu are the ones who have clinched the silver and the bronze medals, respectively, making an impeccable record of 1.88 and 1.85 meters high jump. No matter how much you praise them, it’s still not enough. Especially the 29-year-old young athlete, M.Thangavelu, remains magnificent with his splendid performances on the world stages.
This veteran athlete has inscribed his name in the glorious pages of history books as he is currently the first Indian Paralympics athlete to win three consecutive edition of the game. Mr. Prime Minister of India writes on ‘X’, “……It is commendable that he has won medals in three consecutive editions of the Paralympics. His skills, consistency and determination are exceptional.”
A terrible bus accident made his life up-side down and brought him a permanent disability. Nevertheless, he never yielded but chose to follow his passion and give it a true height. Here is a glimpse of his records and performances-

Sundar Singh Gurjar wins Bronze in Men’s javelin throw F46 event:
His journey from a depressed man to becoming a successful athlete has been truly fascinating. In 2015, a tragic accident caused him to amputate his left hand. Even when he found a way of living the life in sports, injuries didn’t leave him.
But the courageous athlete recovered and appeared as fully fit in the Men’s javelin throw F46 to fetch a Bronze for the nation. It was in 2013 when he won the bronze at a national meet and the two-time Olympic champion Mr. Neeraj Chopra patted him. He was deeply inspired by all the supports and applauds.
India’s First-Ever Paralympics Medal In Judo:
The son of a taxi driver , Kapil Parmar, has come forward with the immense support from his family, coaches and mentors to secure a Paralympic glory. The debutant athlete from Shivor, Madhya Pradesh went to win a Bronze medal in the Men’s 60kg J1 event.
The paralympian didn’t allow any set back to inhabit in his mind. He had a tremendous electric shock which led to him being in a coma for six months. Thanks to the Almighty that he is now not only recovered but excelled much higher progress which is clearly reflected at Paris Paralympics 2024. In the bronze medal contest , he started dominating his opponent from the very beginning and ended with a heavy record 10-0 win over Brazilian Elielton de Oliveira.
Women’s 400m T20, Ablazed With D. Jeevanji
After sealing two gold medals at the Asian Para Games 2022 and in the World Championships 2024, Deepthi Jeevanji brings a frabjous bronze to India from Paris Paralympics 2024. The National Institute for the Empowerment of Persons with Intellectual Disability in Hyderabad certified her as mentally impaired person but defying all such disabilities, she shines brightly in the Women’s 400m T20 event. She has also achieved a rare feat by setting a world record ( 55.07 seconds) in the Para World championships in Kobe, Japan.
Once her parents were advised to keep her away; she was severely humiliated by villagers but as of now she has become a gem to Kalleda village and to India too. It is truly appreciable how her parents supported her to follow her passion. She is a now ‘Laxmi’ to India.
Nagaland’s Forty Years Old Debutant Hokato Hotozhe Bags A Bronze For India:
In the men’s shot put F57 event, Hokato has won the bronze medal with a personal best throw of 14.65 meter. His life got changed in 2002 when he was involved in a Counter Infiltration Operation. A mine blast caused him to lose his left leg below the knee, ending his dream of joining the Special Forces.
He didn’t give up there. As brave as any other Indian army , he determined to continue his life in Para-sports. His lifestory would become an inspiration for the millions.
