Meet Three Gold Medalists from India At Paris Paralympics 2024:

Haryana’s Dharambir has won Gold Medal in Men’s Club Throw F51 while his compatriot Pranav Soorma has secured a silver in the same event. Early in his life, Dharambir had a fatal accident as he misjudged a dive into a canal that left him paralyzed from the waist down. But now Para-sports navigated his life into a right direction. He was introduced to sports by para-athlete Amit Kumar Saroha.

A man with positive mindset can conquer what he aims for. Indias’s heroes Dharambir and P. Soorma are the great example of this. The athlete, Dharambir,  won a Silver medal at the Asian Para Games 2022 held in China. And it was only a beginning as he has now been crowned the gold .

Hailing from Faridabad, Haryana , Pranav Soorma, has bagged both gold at the Asian Para Games 2023 and now a silver at Paris Paralympics 2024. In 2011, Soorma faced an accident that caused severe injury to his spinal cord. His father stood by him. He did not look back rather progressed consistently in sports.

Harvinder hits the bull’s eye for a gold:

Another athlete from Haryana seals Gold at Paris Paralympics 2024. The dexterous archer, Harvinder Singh, was a sensation to watch:

2018 Asian Para Games Gold Men’s Individual Recurve

2020 Tokyo Paralympics Bronze Men’s Individual Recurve

2022 Asian Para Games (held in 2023 ) Bronze Men’s Team Recurve

2024 Paris Paralympics Gold Men’s Individual Recurve

2024 Para Archery World Ranking Bronze Individual Event

2024 World Archery Oceania Para Grand Prix Bronze Individual Event

Harvinder was the first Indian to win a Paralympics medal in archery at Tokyo. The 33-year-old Indian paa-archer has suffered from a mistreatment of dengue causing a complete disability of legs. On September 4, he defeated Poland’s Lukasz Ciszek 6-0 with a dominant performance in the final of the Men’s Individual Recurve Open.

Although there were many adversities in life, he always put a dominant performance over it. Mr. Prime Minister of India wishes him, on ‘X’, congratulations and mentions, “His precision, focus and unwavering spirit are outstanding. India is very happy with his accomplishment.”

The 21-year-old athlete, Praveen Kumar from Uttar Pradsesh has clinched the gold medal in Men’s High Jump T64 event. He leaped 2.08m high which was enough to bag the Gold. At 2020 Tokyo Paralympics, Praveen became the youngest athlete to win a medal in Paralympics for India. He is short legged. For this reason , he felt humiliated and faced inferiority among others. Yet he chose success over these tiny problems. His potential in the sports was noticed by Dr. Satyapal Singh whose guidance helped P. Kumar to get globally recognized. It started at the Asian Para Games 2022.
